A looming energy crisis or one step closer to sustainability?

The impact would be devastating if we don’t prepare for what I am going to tell you about.
This is just a thought that came to my mind while I was peering out of my window one hot sunny morning during lockdown (29th of April 2020 to be precise). I was procrastinating every time my mind told me that I should put my phone and laptop to charge and it so happened that we lost the electricity supply for a short time.

My mind was full of regrets now. Thankfully though, the electricity came back within minutes.

Putting this into perspective

The household energy and water consumption levels are probably at extremely high levels with all family members forced to stay home due to Covid-19. You cannot deny the fact that the majority of us rely on our electronic devices such as our “can’t do without mobile phones”, laptops, TVs, fans, air conditioning (If we are lucky), Wi-Fi routers, etc. etc.

I am not going to ask you whether you can afford to do without any one of the above. Yes, I know you can’t! (Neither can I). These “friends” of ours provide us with the juice we need to get through each day, may it be our desire to stay socially connected, updated with the latest news, keep ourselves entertained and occupied, stay cool (and not sweaty) and most of all to be able to Work From Home!

Adding to the dire situation is the extreme heat we are experiencing these days. So, most of us just can’t do without a fan or AC operating all day long.

Do the Math

By now I know you are probably feeling guilty after realizing how much energy you are consuming, but I don’t blame you! Why? Because even I am guilty as charged! Apart from the monetary value that is involved, I do call out for a more noble and caring outlook regarding this.

Imprisoned

What if our energy usage led to an energy crisis and we would have only a few hours of electricity a day (or none at all)? I will allow you to ponder upon this thought for a few minutes now. Yes, that is right! You don’t even want to go there! (neither do I)

Call To Action

This is not me trying to restrict your freedom or diminish your comfort, but just an attempt to make you look at this scenario from a global perspective and contemplate how much we can do collectively for mother nature and each other if we as individuals consistently did ONE thing every day that saved even the tiny bit of energy or electricity in this case.

You may have given this thought already and maybe doing your best to save energy and use your luxuries sparingly to have a more sustainable footprint throughout all your actions especially during this period of time in lockdown (A big thumbs up to you and keep it up!)

You, Me and the World!

For those who are yet to start- Join me in this endeavor to change our perspective about things in general and have a more “Sustainable mindset” which I believe would help us all in the long run.

Measure your contribution!

Did you use the air conditioner for an hour less today or did you switch off lights which were not really required? Just add all this up for a week and trust me, the satisfaction of your contribution to a greener world will keep you moving forward in the right direction!

So what was your contribution today? 💪

Attorney-at-Law & Business Analyst On Expressing Yourself Through Watches | Part 1

One of the most important accessories to consider when expressing yourself in a fashionable way can be your friend who tells you the time – your wristwatch! Since I befriended Manendra back in 2007 we noticed that why we clicked so well was that we had a common interest in most things. To say the least, we were mad over watches! Our taste has matured over time and seek more than “Just a watch” to wear. While most people just look for “anything that tells you the time”, we take it to the next level; what we both are looking for is a masterpiece that speaks to us from the design, colour, and detail of the dial to the material used on the strap and the origins of the watchmaker. This process is more like buying a car for some (not how much money you spend, but how much time you spend researching) Individuality Matters! When we choose a watch we choose it based on a few characteristics that speak to us. Individuality is important. For example, my friend likes a thick ring ar...

Her Kindness Towards Animals Truly Inspires Me

Sahana Ravishankar is an Attorney-at-Law by profession who has an undying passion for helping all kinds of animals. Especially cats and dogs. I first connected with her on Facebook about a year or so back after seeing a post about two pups who were rescued and needed "furrever homes" as she affectionately refers to it. Feeding the hungry Most of her good deeds revolve around feeding street dogs and cats who would otherwise more or less suffer of starvation and die. Her feeding rounds are regular and require so much effort to carry out. My mom and I once gave a small treat to five street doggies a few months back and that required quite a bit of effort. Buying the food, transporting it, finding the dogs, giving them the food without inconveniencing the public, and ensuring you leave no waste behind. It's a process! Adoption and Re-homing Not only feeding, she adopts helpless cats and dogs too. Caring for them until she finds people she can trust to take care of ...
